BeauFort London is a fiercely independent British perfume house known for creating powerful, narrative-driven “deep niche” fragrances that push beyond conventional perfumery. The brand is defined by its uncompromising artistic vision—using unusual, sometimes provocative ingredients in extremely high concentrations to craft scents that are designed to confront, challenge, and intrigue.

Each fragrance is not created to please everyone, but rather to evoke a strong reaction. That selective philosophy is intentional: BeauFort London embraces the idea that true artistic expression does not seek universal approval, but instead demands attention, interpretation, and emotional response.

At the heart of the brand lies a fascination with the etymology of perfume itself—“per fumum,” meaning “through smoke.” This concept becomes the foundation of its olfactory identity. Smoke is not just an accord, but a structural idea: an atmospheric thread that runs through compositions, linking memory, imagination, and sensory experience. Fragrances are built to feel like memories—real or imagined—rising like smoke from the past.

Founded in 2013 by musician Leo Crabtree, BeauFort London began as an unexpected creative venture inspired by early maritime experiences and a distinctly British relationship with the elements. The brand’s origins trace back to a single product: a handcrafted moustache wax in a billet aluminium case, created as a reaction against poorly executed male grooming products. This experimental, artisanal mindset soon evolved into perfumery.

As fragrance development deepened, the brand shifted its focus entirely to scent, leading to its first major collection in 2015, Come Hell or High Water, which included Tonnerre, Coeur de Noir, and Vi et Armis. These early creations established BeauFort’s signature style—dark, atmospheric, and unapologetically bold—earning both critical acclaim and controversy.

The brand continued to evolve with subsequent collections including Revenants (2017) and Force Majeure (2024), as well as room fragrances and limited editions. Each release continues to expand its exploration of maritime history, British identity, and elemental forces.

Today, BeauFort London stands as a distinctive voice in contemporary niche perfumery—unafraid of intensity, complexity, or discomfort—crafting fragrances that live at the intersection of art, memory, and sensory storytelling.
