Created by perfumer Juliette Karagueuzoglou, Capeline celebrates the lily—lys in French, an anagram of Yves Saint Laurent’s initials. The flower held special significance for the couturier, whose homes were filled with arrangements of white Casablanca lilies.

Because the scent of lily cannot be naturally extracted, the perfumer recreated it through memories of summers by the sea: silky white petals growing among coastal dunes, refreshed by a touch of salty sea spray. Beneath its immaculate floral surface, vanilla adds warmth, creaminess and a subtle leather-like darkness.

YSL Capeline Eau De Parfum Notes

The fragrance opens with sparkling mandarin and bergamot, delicately spiced by vibrant pink berries. At its heart, the majestic lily accord is enhanced by luminous neroli and the exotic floral warmth of ylang-ylang.

As Capeline settles, creamy vanilla deepens the white floral bouquet while vetiver and musk create an elegant, sensual trail. The result is radiant yet enigmatic—an alluring balance of purity, sophistication and hidden intensity.

The Inspiration

Capeline draws inspiration from the dramatic wide-brimmed hats that became symbols of Yves Saint Laurent’s refined yet bohemian style. The hat appeared in the couturier’s debut 1962 collection, partially concealing the face of a model dressed in white and creating an unforgettable sense of mystery.

Its generous brim plays with concealment and revelation, expressing the duality at the heart of YSL: polished sophistication paired with bold, magnetic sensuality.
