Created by Principal Perfumer Amandine Marie and Master Perfumer Alberto Morillas, Trench is built around orris butter—one of perfumery’s most prized ingredients. Extracted from the matured roots of Iris pallida, it reveals complex facets of violet, suede and polished wood.

The fragrance opens with bright bergamot and juicy tangerine, softened by the smooth sweetness of fig. At its heart, powdery iris concrete unfolds alongside luminous neroli, creating an elegant contrast between softness and clarity.

As Trench settles on the skin, warm ambrette, dry cedar and delicate musks form a smooth, sensual base. Refined yet intriguing, its understated trail can be worn effortlessly throughout the day.

The Inspiration

Originally created as a practical military coat, the trench was transformed by Yves Saint Laurent into an emblem of feminine confidence and sensuality. In 1962, Saint Laurent reshaped its traditionally masculine structure to complement the curves of the female body.

The garment later became immortalised through Catherine Deneuve’s black vinyl trench in Luis Buñuel’s Belle de Jour. Its sharp tailoring, defined shoulders and cinched waist captured the duality at the heart of YSL—strength and sensuality, elegance and provocation.

Trench Eau de Parfum expresses this same contrast through powdery iris, sparkling citrus and a warm, skin-like musky base.
